The most unique, family friendly event to take place on the shores of Lake Superior. In its 19th year, the Two Harbors Kayak Festival features the nationally renowned John Abraham’s  18-Mile Marathon, the Ellen Anderson 10-Mile Race, the Betty’s Pies 5-Mile Race( all adult race 16+) and the Youth Sprint Races.

In addition to the four races there are local exhibitors, kayak demos, stand up paddle boarding demos & classes, beginning level instructional family tours, kids kayaking, live music, food, fun, and more! There is something for everyone at this one of a kind paddling festival.

Marie Westerman is a fiber artist who does pictorial weaving. Jill Ewald is an artist who works with many mediums including oil paint, graphite, conte crayon, encaustic and charcoal, and recently, thread.

Johnson Heritage Post is open Monday through Saturday from 10 – 4 (closed Tuesdays) and Sunday 1 – 4.

Learn to recognize common rocks found in the area and the story of their formation. What does a Lake Superior agate look like? What about Thompsonite? Did you know lava flows have layers- and Sugarloaf is one of the best places to see them all in one place. It’s all here under your feet- come explore with us!

Sunday afternoon presentation features author and retired teacher Larry Weber, speaking from his experience and his book “Spiders of the North Woods”.

Spiders are common residents among us, but most of us know little about them except they may give you the heebie jeebie’s. Learn more abut common spiders, then take a short outdoor walk after this presentation to  identify some of our local spiders.

All presentations are family friendly and free to the public.

The Games Afoot – Winner! 2012 Mystery Writers of America Edgar Allen Poe Awards – Best Play!

It is December 1936 and Broadway star William Gillette, admired the world over for his leading role in the play Sherlock Holmes, has invited his fellow cast-members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of revelry. But when one of the guests is stabbed to death, the festivities in this isolated house of tricks and mirrors quickly turn dangerous. Then it’s up to Gillette himself, as he assumes the persona of his beloved Holmes, to track down the killer before the next victim appears. The danger and hilarity are non-stop in this glittering whodunit set during the Christmas holidays.

The Pajama Game – Based on the novel “71/2 cents” by Richard Bissell

The Pajama Game was awarded the 1955 Tony for Best Musical and, over half of a century later, claimed the award for Best Revival of a Musical, proving that the story is truly timeless. With an energetic score by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross (Damn Yankees), The Pajama Game is brimming with songs and dances that have become musical theatre standards, including “Steam Heat” and “Hernando’s Hideaway.”

Conditions at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory are anything but peaceful as sparks fly between new superintendent, Sid Sorokin, and Babe Williams, leader of the union grievance committee. Their stormy relationship comes to a head when the workers strike for a 7 ½ cent pay increase, setting off not only a conflict between management and labor, but a battle of the sexes as well.
