1 pm – Harbor History Walking Tour, meet at the Lightkeeper’s Museum in Grand Marais

John Schroeder Day at Cross River Heritage Center in Schroeder.
Fireman’s Pancake Breakfast at the Schroeder Town Hall from 8 – 10 am, and activities at Cross River Heritage Center from 10 am – 2 pm.

Tuesday August 29
North Shore Cruise’ “See the Shore Through the Eyes of a Fisherman.”  Join the North Shore Commercial Fishing Museum for a trip aboard the historic boat, the Wenonah.  The ship leaves the Silver Bay Marina at 4:30 for a two hour trip along the coast of Lake Superior with a commercial fisherman describing hazards, historic sites, old fish houses and storms.  You will never view at the coast the same way again. If bad weather, cruise will be August 30th.

Often overlooked and clearly under-appreciated, our lichens, mosses, and ferns are wonderfully diverse and surprisingly beautiful. We will spend the entire time exploring the rocks of Sugarloaf Cove. Practice with tools and techniques that will catapult you from nerdy novice to locally respected authority (you’ll amaze friends and family). A stroll in the park or along the shore will never be the same again.

Joe Walewski and Mikki Brevig are both Wolf Ridge Naturalists. Joe is also the author of Lichens of the North Woods and Ferns and Allies of the North Woods. $2 per person; $5 per family

Meet at the Cook County Historical Society Museum for a guided, one hour long walk around the harbor. The tour guide will show photos and tell a bit about the development of the harbor and the community. Learn about the how the harbor was once a logging industry shipping mecca!

Occurs every Saturday from June 17 to September 16.

Stop by to see how cast bronze sculptures are made. It’s fiery and exciting when the bronze is liquid. Come watch new one-of-a-kind bronze sculptures emerging in the foundry each Saturday at 4 p.m. throughout the summer and fall at Last Chance Studio in downtown Lutsen. Sculptors Tom Christiansen and Greg Mueller will pour hot metal and explain the casting process.
