What To Expect
What is a Sled Dog Tour? It is a great ride through the woods, tucked into a runnered sled, carried along by a team of huskies (usually 8), with a musher directing the dogs and sled.

Our tours bring you through birch, pine and cedar groves, including near some beautiful old growth stands of pine, and along small trout lakes. Our neck of the woods is moose and wolf country, and we may see tracks and scat, hear the wolves talking to our team, and even see a moose once-in-a-great-while.

The 1-Hour ride is ideal for riders who want to give dog sledding a try. Each of our two sleds has a 250-pound load limit, so we will place you in sleds accordingly. The 2-Hour tour allows for more time in the woods and is great for folks who love the outdoors. Half-Day and specialty tours are set up to meet your specific wishes.

Each trip route is chosen to provide you the best ride taking into account the weather, the group size, the length of the the tour and the snow conditions. An experienced musher guides and handles the team the entire time. The ride is smooth, bumpy, fast, slow, exhilirating and beautiful.

What To Bring
The great thing about a sled dog tour is the dogs and mushers do all the work. You are in the sled for a the ride, the adventure and the scenery. So all you really need to do is dress warm!

It's winter and you won't be moving around much, so we suggest that you wear ::
  • layers, including long underwear
  • a warm hat
  • warm mittens
  • warm boots
  • warm jacket and snow pants
  • hand & foot warmers (if you'd like)

  • . . . and don't forget your camera!

Meet Dayna, Brian & the Pups!
We, Dayna and Brian, met 10 years ago canoeing on the Gunflint Trail. We were seasoned paddlers and guides and soon found we shared another outdoor interest --- dog sledding. Brain was already mushing and after we married, we traveled to Alaska, working with an Iditarod musher and his kennel for a year. We returned to Minnesota with improved mushing experieince, and the start of our future kennel, Alaskan Huskies! Over the past handful of years, we have continued mushing and working to build our kennel, the Irish Creek Kennel, named for the stream running near our home.
The winter of 2007 broucht a much-anticipated event, the opening of our Irish Creek Kennels to the public for Sled Dog Tours. We are excited to share our love of dogs, the outdoors, and mushing with you. When not providing sled dog rides, we continue to work with the teams, training the dogs for a future sled dog race (our next dream!).
And playing with the new pups! Two litters of Husky puppies were born into the kennel in 2007. Dayna is holding the Popeye, Sherman & Sazo, three of the late summer puppies, also pictured below with their siblings. And a second litter was born in late November, bringing the dog count to 21 at Irish Creek.

We look forward to meeting you and giving you the ride of your life!
