Vacation Guide 2017

CANADA

CROSS THE PIGEON RIVER TO CANADA; YOU

WILL BE REQUIRED TO PASS THROUGH CANADIAN

CUSTOMS ENTERING CANADA & US CUSTOMS UPON

RE-ENTERING THE USA; BRING PASSPORTS FOR EACH PERSON.

Just so you know, Canada is English-speaking, uses the

same rules of the road, uses the metric system [that’s

kilometers per hour, not miles], accepts credit cards

although you can exchange money on either side of

the border and is in the Eastern Time Zone, one hour

ahead of Minnesota / Central Time Zone.

Tour the Middle Falls [of the Pigeon River] Provincial

Park a few miles over the border.

Stop at the world’s largest reconstruction of an early

1800s fur trading post, Fort William Historical Park, just

west of Thunder Bay on Broadway, follow the signs.

Get a bird’s-eye view from viewing platforms of the

131-foot Kakabeka Falls. 20 miles west on Highway

11/17.

Explore the city of Thunder Bay [37 miles northeast of

the border], home to ethnic neighborhoods and shops,

urban dining and shopping, a waterfront and marina

overlooking Sleeping Giant Provincial Park and the

Welcome Islands, parks and green spaces, recreation

complexes, seven museums, sport and entertainment

venues, and amethyst mines.
