Tofte Area / Sugarbush Ski Trails
Part of the North Shore Mountains Trail system
The North Shore Mountains trail system is 196K of interconnected trails originating at Cross River in Schroeder and extending northeast to Bally Creek, which is west of Grand Marais.

Level of Difficulty easy, more & most difficult
Trail Description features 2.9K easy Inner Loops (great for kids), and intermediate loops through rolling maple covered hills and hogback ridges; the intermediate 3.1K Hogback Trail is a slow climb up and long descent back; 1.7K Bridge Run is a less challenging intermediate that leads to the 7.3K Homestead Loop (actually a 12K total ski from Sawbill trailhead); includes the 25K Picnic Loop for the advanced skier and 4K connector trail to Leveaux
Location & Directions From Hwy 61 in Tofte, drive north on Sawbill Trail (County Road 2) for 2 miles

Trail Description west of Sugarbush, ski the intermediate 2.2K trail to the summit of Carlton's Peak, which intersects with the intermediate 3K downhill run to Bluefin Bay
Location & Directions From Hwy 61 in Tofte, drive north on Sawbill Trail (County Road 2) for 2 miles

Trail Description a 1K trail leading to the easy Upland Loop (2.4K) and the more difficult Maple Loop (3.4K); or you can ski 2.3K to the and the 4.3K advanced connector trail to the Picnic Loop (see Sugarbush description above)
Location & Directions From Hwy 61 in Tofte, drive north on Sawbill Trail (Co Rd 2) for 7 1/2 miles to the White Pine Blister Rust Research sign
