Baptism River Snowshoe Hike

Tettegouche State Park Visitor’s Center | Silver Bay MN

Join the park naturalist for a guided snowshoe hike up the frozen Baptism River. This snowy opening in the forest becomes a highway for wildlife such as wolves and otter in the winter. We’ll snowshoe up to the Cascades of the Baptism River and return back down to Lake Superior to finish off. If needed, free loaner snowshoes will be available on a first come, first served basis. Please arrive up to ½ hour early to get snowshoes if you choose this option.

This hike will be rerouted if the ice conditions are not optimal and we will cancel this event if the air temperatures are below -15 F at the start of the hike.

Walking in a Winter Wonderland
Walking in a Winter Wonderland

Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center | Schroeder Minnesota

Ahhh late January in Minnesota! It can be lots of things… probably cold, probably snowy, but definitely beautiful.

Join us at Sugarloaf Cove for a winter exploration under the light of the moon. We will have a campfire, toast some marshmallows, sip hot beverages and experience firsthand the beauty of the outdoors. A torchlight hike to the shore on the Scientific and Natural Area will be part of the event, so come prepared for a short expedition.

A clear night will provide great views of the moon and winter stars, but clear night or otherwise there is always a lot happening under the ice and snow even when the living world seems to be slumbering. Let’s investigate and see what’s going on!

Dress for being outside with winter boots and winter layers. There is also an indoor Nature Center to retreat to if weather is overly challenging outside.

This program is in partnership with the MN DNR – Scientific and Natural Areas program.

Dessa is a rapper, a singer, and an essayist with the Doomtree collective – the ascendant Minneapolis hip-hop crew. She’s landed on the Billboard Top 200 list as a solo artist (for Parts of Speech) and as a Doomtree member (for All Hands). Combining wit, tenderness, and poetic sensibility to rare effect, Dessa spins delicate and charged stories and animates them with her expressive alto voice, arresting for its honest and clear simplicity. Transcending the restrictions of genre to reveal an astonishing multi-platform voice.

MONAKR is an ethereal deep-pop group formed by Grammy-nominated artist Matthew Santos (featured vocalist on Lupe Fiasco’s Superstar) and Saam Hagshenas and Jonathan Marks, formerly of indie band Hey Champ. Their sound is synth-laden pop but with heart-wrenching gravitas that only Santos’ voice could provide.
