Lake Superior 20/20 Studio Art Tour

The Lake Superior 20/20 Studio Art Tour offers visitors a variety of artistic talent to peruse while enjoying the autumn splendor of Minnesota’s North Shore.

Glass, ceramics, woodwork, painting, printmaking, jewelry, sculpture, and photography,  will be exhibited, demonstrated, and offered for sale on this tour. Many sites are providing hands on activities.

The tour is well-marked along Highway 61 and the many adventurous side roads between Two Harbors and Duluth. Look for the bright neon green signs  and balloons with the tour’s logo.

Highway 1 to Lake County Road 6, 6.8 miles
This section, often referred to as the “crown jewel” of the SHT, features views of inland lakes and Lake Superior, plus geologic features like the Lemon Squeezer and Sawmill Dome. Meet at Lake County Road 6.
Directions to Lake County Road 6 Trailhead: At Hwy. 61 milepost 65.3, turn left on Lake Co. Rd. 6 and go 2.3 miles to trailhead parking lot on right.

 

  • SHTA weekend hikes begin at 10:00 AM rain, snow, or shine. Weekday hikes begin at 9:00 AM.
  • Each hike is led by a member of the Superior Hiking Trail Association! Hike leaders may cancel or change the hike in the event of severe weather. The meeting location will always remain the same.
  • Hikes are free of charge. No need to register.
  • Wear sturdy boots or hiking shoes, bring lunch, water, and insect repellent.
  • Due to past problems, dogs are not allowed on guided hikes.
  • Hikes are rugged and often very challenging. Please assess your own abilities before deciding to participate. It is better to start small than to be overly ambitious about what you can handle. We offer a variety of hike lengths for this purpose.

Writing Workshop

Grand Marais Public Library | Grand Marais MN

Take advantage of this opportunity to create a short piece of fiction in one workshop. The goal is for each participant to create a strong character driven piece in the form of flash fiction (1000 words or less) that a participant might have in finished form by the end of the workshop. Topics to be covered include: Goals, Motivation, and Conflict, Character Descriptions and Development, Scene Development, Dialogue, Character Development, Interview Questions, Character Sketch, and Clothing and Language.

The presenter is Elyse Lawrey, who writes under the name Maddie LeSage, a published author from Duluth, Minnesota. Maddie LeSage writes Romantic Suspense, or Romance with a Twist, as she likes to call it. She graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth with a degree in English, and is a member of Romance Writers of America, Northern Lights Writers (a chapter of RWA) and Sisters in Crime, an organization for mystery writers. Maddie’s stories take place in and around Duluth where she currently lives. Her next book, Rescue Me, will take place in a fictitious town called, Cedar Falls which was inspired by her many visits to Grand Marais, Minnesota.
