Join the JHP Art Gallery for the Opening Reception of “Listening to Lichen & Sculptural Weaving” an art exhibition by Elise Kyllo and Patricia Beilke. The exhibit will open Friday November 9th from 5 – 7 pm. All of the pieces will be available for purchase. Join the Gallery in an this creative exhibition of sculpture and felting – don’t miss your chance!

The Exhibit runs through December 2.

Enjoy all things Scandinavian – and search for Trolls – during the three day Julebyen Christmas Festival.  Julebyen celebrates Scandinavian Christmas traditions in crafts, music and food, and characters from mythology.  This year Julebyen will have three “Troll Trains” to Troll Canyon on Saturday and two on Sunday.

Another new attraction – a Julenissen Klasser where children can learn how to write and illustrate storybooks and use puppets to tell stories.

indoor and outdoor marketplaces, bakery, entertainment in the “Gnome Dome,” a “Julefest” and silent auction Friday night, a “Writer’s Corner” in Troll Village, a live nativity and celebration of music Sunday, winter outdoor fun and children’s games.  The Julebyen Express train will take festivalgoers to Troll Village and back departing the Duluth Depot Saturday and Sunday.

Julebyen is free to the public. Friday events start at 4pm.  Some activities require reservations and an admission.

Gooseberry Falls State Park | Two Harbors

Get ready for winter by learning how to lace your own snowshoes in this two-day hands on and rewarding workshop. Learn which knots to use and how to weave the three areas of decking onto the frame. Experienced instructors will provide assistance for you to lace your own pair of Ojibwe-style snowshoes. This workshop (recommended for ages 10 and up with an adult) will consist of two consecutive day sessions from 9am to 4pm at the Visitor Center.

***Participants must attend both days.

The cost is a $100 registration fee. This fee includes the snowshoe kit, materials and instruction, along with coffee, tea, and snacks. Bindings and varnish are not included. Lunch will not be provided for the weekend workshop, so attendees should bring a sack lunch. Workshop has a minimum of 8 participants and a maximum of 12 participants.

Class size is limited and pre-registration is required by November 13th to ensure materials arrive in time. Snowshoe sizes are small (up to 120 pounds), medium (up to 180 pounds), and large (over 180 pounds). Call Gooseberry Falls 218 595-7108 for more info. Free, two-day community event where 40+ local small businesses sell their goods out of festive wooden cabins. In addition to shopping, visitors will enjoy food and beverages, campfires by the lake, complimentary s’mores, live animals, carol singers and more.

The Duluth Winter Village takes place on the grounds of Glensheen, the historic Congdon estate that was once home to one of Duluth’s earliest champions of local business.

Parking will NOT be available at Glensheen. Plan to park at UMD in Parking Lot B and take one of the shuttles down to the Duluth Winter Village. They will run continuously all day 9:30am-5:30pm.
