Enjoy all things Scandinavian – and search for Trolls – during the three day Julebyen Christmas Festival.  Julebyen celebrates Scandinavian Christmas traditions in crafts, music and food, and characters from mythology.  Five “Troll Trains To Troll Canyon” will take festivalgoers through the woods of Knife River in search of Trolls. She said last year about 1,000 went seeking mischievous trolls and none were disappointed. The North Shore Scenic Railroad’s Julebyen Express train will take festivalgoers to the festival and back departing the Duluth Depot Saturday and Sunday mornings.

New in 2019 – Anne Jorunn Syvertse, our first designer, artist, and crafter from Norway. She has shown her knitted creations from ‘sweaters to pot-holders’ and hand-stitched cards, pillows, pictures and table cloths at all the major Scandinavian-themed festivals in the U.S.

Highlights of the seventh annual Julebyen include indoor and outdoor marketplaces, bakery, entertainment in the “Gnome Dome,” a “Writer’s Corner” in Troll Village, a live nativity and celebration of music Sunday sponsored by the Knife River Lutheran Church, winter outdoor fun and children’s games.

Friday evening kicks off weekend activities with a Julefest and silent auction in the Gnome Dome at 4 pm.
Saturday hours are 9 am – 5 pm, Sunday hours are 10 am – 4 pm.

Aspen is a registered therapy animal  with the Pet Partners program. She is at the library on Saturdays, 11 am – 12 pm. you can reserve a 20-minute slot by calling the library at (218) 387-1140, or come and read on a first-come first-served basis.

This event is a well known tradition on the north shore featuring one-of-a-kind fiber crafts handmade by guild members.

Saturday Brewery Tours
11:00 am – 12:30 pm; We offer tours on most Saturdays beginning at 11:00am. No payment is necessary at the time of booking the reservation but we do ask you to bring a $5 donation that we can give to one of our Cook County non-profits.

Artist’s in the Taproom
Shop local in the comfort of Voyageur Brewing Company while listening to local Roxann Berglund perform holiday music live. Each Wednesday from 4:30-6:30pm, local artists will set up their wares to sell.

Get a leg-up on the competition by visiting our Facebook page between 12pm-5pm the day of the event for the answer to a sommelier-level wine question that will be asked that night.
