A day of tours geared for children and free admission for ages 17 and under. Families can learn about the children who lived at the light station and join in special games, crafts, and activities.

Split Rock Ridge Loop, 4.4 miles
Hike this other Split Rock Loop with fantastic views of Lake Superior and the Split Rock Lighthouse. Meet at Split Rock River Wayside.
Directions to Split Rock River Wayside: On Hwy. 61 milepost 43.5 with parking lot on left.

 

  • SHTA weekend hikes begin at 10:00 AM rain, snow, or shine.
  • Each hike is led by a member of the Superior Hiking Trail Association! Hike leaders may cancel or change the hike in the event of severe weather. The meeting location will always remain the same.
  • Hikes are free of charge. No need to register.
  • Wear sturdy boots or hiking shoes, bring lunch, water, and insect repellent.
  • Due to past problems, dogs are not allowed on guided hikes.
  • Hikes are rugged and often very challenging. Please assess your own abilities before deciding to participate. It is better to start small than to be overly ambitious about what you can handle. We offer a variety of hike lengths for this purpose.

Cross River heritage Center | Schroeder MN

The Schroeder Area Historical Society (SAHS) is sponsoring its annual tour, which will visit sixarchitecturally significant home sites along the North Shore. 2018 architects are David Salmela, Dale Mulfinger, and Scott Berry.

Registration is at Cross River Heritage Center in Schroeder, MN from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm on July 7, 2018. Bus loading starts at 1:00 pm and tour ends at approximately 5:30 pm. Lake Superior ledge rock picnic follows tour and ends at 7:00 pm.

To reserve a spot, a donation of $150/person is required. Schroeder Area Historical Society is a 501-C3 non-profit organization. Crosby-Manitou State Park to Caribou Falls State Wayside, 8.0 miles
This very challenging hike features the rocky, rugged terrain of the North Shore’s wildest state park. The Manitou River and scenic overlooks are highlights. Not recommended for beginners. Meet at Caribou Falls State Wayside. Note: This hike involves a 30-minute shuttle.
Directions to Caribou Falls State Wayside: At Hwy. 61 milepost 70.5 on left side of highway.

The most unique, family friendly event to take place on the shores of Lake Superior. In its 21st year, the Two Harbors Kayak Festival features the nationally renowned John Abraham’s  18-Mile Marathon, the Ellen Anderson 10-Mile Race, the Betty’s Pies 5-Mile Race( all adult race 16+) and the Youth Sprint Races.

In addition to the four races there are local exhibitors, kayak demos, stand up paddle boarding demos & classes, beginning level instructional family tours, kids kayaking, live music, food, fun, and more! There is something for everyone at this one of a kind paddling festival.
