Mom’s Gift by Phil Olson

In this comedy with a heart, Mom has been dead for 11 months and shows up at her husband’s birthday party as a ghost with a mission. Like Clarence in It’s A Wonderful Life, she has to accomplish a task to earn her wings. Only what the task actually is, is a mystery. There are so many things to fix. The problem is complicated by the fact that the only person who can hear or see Mom is her daughter who has been ordered by the court to spend Dad’s birthday with him as part of her Anger Management Program. One by one the family’s secrets are peeled away revealing a shocking truth that surprises even our ghost.

Comedy performances will be July 20,22, 26, 28, Aug. 3, 5, 9, 11

Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center | Schroeder Minnesota

There are so many different kinds of rocks on the Sugarloaf Beach! How did they form, how did Lake Superior get here, did all these rocks come from around here, how do you know an agate when you find one, what about Thomsonite? All sorts of questions come up when you look at rocks. Margie, our Naturalist will hang out on the Sugarloaf beach every Sunday and answer questions about rocks, and periodically take interested people for an exploration of the lava flows on Sugarloaf Point. Come any time between 10 and 1. $5 per person; $10 per family.

Sunday Afternoon Nature Presentation with Doug Hall
Sunday Afternoon Nature Presentation with Doug Hall

Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center | Grand Marais MN

Join us with Doug Hall for his presentation on dragonflies. Doug will start in the Nature Center with a PowerPoint presentation about the local dragonflies. Weather dependent the next part of the presentation would be to take the group out on the Chik-Wauk grounds to try catching and releasing some dragonflies around the museum area.

Doug has a bachelor’s degree in zoology from the University of Minnesota. He has spent most of his professional career with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, primarily supervising water quality related programs.

Since his retirement, 10 years ago, he has been volunteering at Warner Nature Center, a branch of the Science Museum of Minnesota. His volunteer activity is working with elementary students teaching them about various aspects of the natural world.
Doug is a member of the Minnesota Dragonfly Society which is a citizen science organization dedicated to increasing knowledge about dragonflies in Minnesota.

All presentations are family friendly and free to the public

They will meet inside Chik-Wauk Nature Center
