to an excellent railroad museum,

19th century downtown Duluth

depiction, local history museum,

Veteran’s Memorial Hall and two

galleries.

Amble through Leif Erikson Park

and the Duluth Rose Garden.

Running along the rocky shore

where Leif and his cohorts made

their legendary landing, the park

showcases lake views, gardens, an

historic stone pavilion and a replica

of Leif’s boat. Watch free family-

friendly movies in the park, Fridays

at sunset in July and August.

Stop at the shore’s first park along

the Lester River! Set aside as

parkland in 1890, this has been a

favorite visitor stop for more than

a century. The park includes hiking

trails, a playground, pavilion and

picnic area, and the river mouth - a

hot fishing spot during spring and

fall spawn runs.

Brighton Beach; a cobblestone

beach perfect for skipping stones,

agate-hunting,

ship-watching

and

picnicking.

McQuade Harbor Rest Area; a

spanky little safe harbor with

a boat launch, kayak ramp,

restrooms, interpretive panels,

includes three fishing platforms.

Minnesota Department of Natural

Resources [DNR] incubates a

variety of fish here. Visitor center

open weekdays, year-round.

Buchanan Wayside offers a small

pullover parking area, scenic

lookout and historical marker.

immigrants from Larsmo, Finland.

Visit the Little Red Schoolhouse,

built in 1914 and now on the

National Historic Register. It acts

as a community hub for area

residents. Stop in and see what’s

happening.
