Vacation Guide 2017

WHITE WINTER

Access Trail Maps and updated Snow Reports on NorthShoreVisitor.com

On the North Shore, winter starts with a Halloween squall and concludes

with an Easter ski date. We like winter. It is a season of stunning coastal ice

formations, piercing blue skies on dazzling sunlit days, shimmering star-

strewn heavens on subzero nights and piles and piles of downy white

snow.

We have found every conceivable way to play in that snow. We pile it high

and carve it.We glide on it, race around it, ride over it, make tracks through

it and roll around it. Sometimes we even drill holes and catch fish through

it. Mostly, we live in it and love it.

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING

The North Shore is a skinny skier’s nirvana. Hundreds

of kilometers of trails traverse hillsides, lakeshores,

river-valley ridges, pine plantations and deciduous

forests. Choose trails by length, level of ability and

classic or skating stride. In selecting a trail, keep in

mind almost all trails are groomed and trackset weekly

from December through March. Many resorts offer

packages, rentals, maps and shuttle service. Go to

NorthShoreVisitor.com for up-to-date snow reports,

trail descriptions and maps.

SKIING & SNOWBOARDING

Vertical rise, lake effect snow, diverse runs and

beautiful vistas are in concert at Lutsen Mountains,

the Midwest’s biggest and best alpine ski area. With

a prolonged season, you will have ample time to work

on your technique and acquaint yourself with the 95

runs bisecting Ullr, Eagle, Mystery & Moose, Lutsen’s

four mountains. Rentals, lessons, a snowboard park,

two chalets, three ski-in ski-out eateries, a new

gondola and a chairlift round out the ski area. When

making lodging reservations, ask about ski packages.
