MANITOU

+ 14 miles inland

The quiet park. Off the beaten path,

it has limited development, great

hiking, picnicking and secluded

backpack campsites. Watch for

wildlife, fish and explore the river.

TEMPERANCE RIVER

Hardly moderate. The thundering

force of the river continues

to carve a deeper path in this

amazing gorge. Easy to negotiate

trails lead to the river mouth,

cobblestone beach and upstream

gorges. Keep an eye on the kids.

CASCADE RIVER

Gooseberry’s twin.Excellent hiking,

ledgerock shoreline, overlooks,

maple and birch fall colors,

great skiing and snowshoeing all

centered around the cascading

river. Smaller visitor center with

gifts.

Home of the legendary Devil’s

Kettle! Hike to the famous falls

where half the river drops 50-feet

and the other half disappears into

a huge pothole. Picnicking, hiking

and river fishing in a quiet setting.

GRAND PORTAGE

All about the High Falls. Within

the Grand Portage Reservation,

it offers a new visitor center, a

1/2-mile accessible path and

boardwalk through a mixed

hardwood-conifer forest to the

120-foot falls. Bring your camera.

Campgrounds at all parks except

Grand Portage. Permits are

required and cost $5/day or up to

$25/year and allow entrance to all

Minnesota State Parks.

Parks are open year-round,

however some visitor centers have

shorter hours or are closed in the

winter.

GOOSEBERRY FALLS

A four seasons park! Spring runoff,

summer hiking, fall colors and

wintry ski and snowshoe trails.

Don’t miss the exhibits, programs,

firelit lobby and gift shop at the

visitor center.

SPLIT ROCK LIGHTHOUSE

The North Shore’s landmark and an

historic treasure. Trails, picnic sites,

cobblestone beaches outside and
