and you’re likely to hear “head east,”when you thought
you were heading north. As in “up the North Shore.”
The reality is the North Shore runs on a southwest/
northeast angle. So, if you’re headed up the shore,
you’re mostly heading east. If you stand with your
back to Lake Superior and look to the surrounding
forest, you’re generally looking north.
So if someone tells you to go north, they might mean,
“into the woods”. If the route is east, you’re headed
toward Canada, while west indicates a Duluth bearing.
All paths south will eventually end at Lake Superior,
not a bad track to be on at all.
