Fire Updates

Recent rains and humidity have helped firefighters can control of the main fires – the large Greenwood fire north of Tettegouche, the Ek and Whelp fires near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness [BWCAW].

A few BWCAW entry points are closed.
Campsites at Crosby Manitou State Park are closed. Check conditions in this area before hiking.

Covid Updates

CDC recommends mask wearing for all people [vaccinated or not] indoors or in crowded outdoor areas].

Travel Tips

Book early – lodging is getting hard to find, including campsites and vacation rentals. That said, here are some specials for late autumn.

Be Patient – every business is short staffed, we’ve got road construction and it is busy

Have Fun – look at what to do in each community, check out the mile-by-mile list, find a map, an event, and see every place you can access Lake Superior.

a note from nina

September

Maples are at peak along the ridges a few miles inland. See the fall color report plus tours with maps and driving directions.

More outdoor fun – a new section of the paved Gitch Gami bike [and walking] trail has opened connecting to Grand Marais. Midpoint of the trail is the Fall River waterfalls  – just a trickle but also has views of the river mouth and Lake Superior.

Be safe and enjoy,

– Nina
