Join the JHP Art Gallery for an exhibition of works titled “Calling” created by Alexa Carson.

Alexa Carson’s paintings invoke the call of our wilderness– the call of the chickadee, the loon, the wolf. We are being called back to our natural spaces to reconnect with wildlife, and to reclaim our role as nature’s stewards.

Summer Hours: Wednesday – Saturday 10 am – 4 pm; Sunday 1-4 pm; Monday 10 am – 4 pm. CLOSED TUESDAYS

The exhibit runs through June 30.

Summer Naturalist Programs

Through a unique, nationally recognized partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, resorts and other locations in Cook County host FREE, family-friendly naturalist programs Tuesdays – Saturdays all summer long.

Naturalist program topics range from bats, beavers, and wolves to moose, meteor strikes and wildflowers. Everyone is welcome to attend, even if you are just visiting for the day. No resort reservations are required to participate.

Wet Your Paddle!

Gunflint Trail outfitters want to introduce families and anyone interested to the adventurous joys of canoeing in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness by asking visitors to “Wet Your Paddle.”
Outfitters are hosting an hour of free canoe paddling and will provide instruction if needed!

You may visit the outfitter of your choice during their selected hour of the program, but please call ahead to let them know you are coming.
Anyone coming outside of the allotted time slot will be charged normal rental fees.

Minnesota author and trans activist Nate Cannon’s presentation, “Outside the Box: Diversity, Language, and Bridges to Inclusion” draws upon his experiences as an out FTM (Female to Male) trans man to address current topics in the LGBTQ community. Cannon mixes his personal experiences as a suicide attempt survivor and transgender man living with unseen disability into a broader discussion of identity and social equality.
